UK Graduate Route (PSW) Visa 2025: Eligibility & Rules

The Graduate Route (often called the PSW or Post-Study Work visa) is the crown jewel of the UK education system. It allows international students to stay in the UK for 2 years (or 3 years for PhDs) after graduating to work in any job, at any salary level. No sponsor required. 1. Who is Eligible?

You can apply if:

• You are currently in the UK.
• You hold a valid Student Visa.
• You have successfully completed your eligible course (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD).
• Your university has notified the Home Office of your completion.

Crucial: Do not leave the UK / travel after your course ends but before you apply for the Graduate Route. If you leave, you might lose eligibility.

Why choose Graduate Route over Skilled Worker?

• Flexibility: You can work as a freelancer, contractor, or in a part-time job. Skilled Worker requires a specific job role.

4. Does it count towards ILR (Settlement)?

No. The 2 years on the Graduate Route do NOT count towards the 5-year route to Indefinite Leave to Remain. However, they DO count towards the 10-year "Long Residence" route.

Strategy: Use the Graduate Route to find a good employer. Then, switch to the Skilled Worker Visa once you have proven yourself. The Skilled Worker visa DOES count towards the 5-year settlement.
